Sometimes, we get out of the habit of doing things - it's not that we don't like them any more, it's just that life is a busy place and sometimes other things take priority. And so it has been with me and my camera. Back in the days when I blogged more frequently, it felt important to take photos, an accompaniment to what I was saying. But then Instagram kind of took over and it's easier to snap a picture on the phone and say a few sentences and there, hey presto! Record of my days captured, connections made. No need for the more time consuming, big camera and blog post combo.
But I miss my big camera a little bit. Yes, it's a faff, but it it a calming, centering, creative kind of faff. So I have signed up for a course - A Year With My Camera. I heard about it when Alice began it in January, but I was too late to sign up to it then. And actually, I am quite pleased, because at this time of year the light is back and I feel more of an urge to take photos. And hopefully this will challenge me to learn a bit more about my camera. So I have switched off Auto mode and am ready to learn.
And rediscover a pleasure I was out of the habit of enjoying. Care to join me?
That picture was the response to the prompt #abstract, before you think I have lost the plot and didn't know how to focus a camera on manual mode....
And the writing here bit? I was reading this and Laura kind of summed it up when she said I’m never more fully myself than when the words begin to flow. Here's to that too.
That sounds such a tempting course, I have very little idea about how to use my cameras properly. I have also forgotten most of what I knew about my old Pentax too.
Is it something that you have to commit to doing every day? I would have trouble with that since I sometimes can't get out.
I should say that I was very pleased to see your name pop up in my blog feed, it is always good to read what you write and to see your images.
