Now I really didn't have you down as a petrol-head Ali! My dad owns a Formula Ford car, he no loNger races it (thank heavens) a younger chap drives for him now and he just enjoys the engineering side of it all. Dylan (encouraged by his grandad) has become a total car bore, reciting facts and figures at every possible opportunity.

I found it spine tingly and thrilling to hear the roar of the engines...for about 2 minutes when I went last year (just to the qualifications). After that I'm afraid I found it too loud and not particularly thrilling. Don't mind watching it on the telly though!

Ooo Missus, aren't those races just fab? A few years ago my mumma took my sister and me to Monaco and we actually walked the whole circuit. I have a piece of the hairpin in our downstairs loo!!! And we saw David Coulthard in the next restaurant to us!!! I've gone all faint thinking about it again. Your photos look like you had an amazing day. Ax

I have driven the Melbourne Grand Prix circuit the night before the race.

I confess - it is a street circuit so my journey was no more unusual than a bazillion commuters made.

Love it. It was the only sport in the house growing up - every other Sunday spent running from the dinner table to sitting room to check on progress - and still is. The rumble is almost winding. Goodwood Festival of Speed is quite good fun (and a little more affordable) if you want to get close to the cars and watch them steam up the hill. Can't believe we're going to have to get Sky next year...!

I am the non pretolhead in a family off them - we had to plan our wedding and honey moon around GP weekends! I'm saving to take hubby and son to monaco for their 40th/18th in a few years. My bro is crew in a F1 team but I find it all a nice excuse to have a sunday afternoon nap lulled by the noise!

Oh I had no idea! What fab pictures. My hobbies seem very dull by comparison now.

Wow -- I definitely wouldn't have figured that LOL. I've never been to a car race, in spite of living only 2 hours from the Indy 500. It sure sounds like lots of fun!

Oh my boys are sooooo jelous....

They test F1 cars at Duxford a few days each year - we can hear them from our village ...

funny what Trash said re the Melbourne Grand Prix...it's just a lap around Albert Park Lake. funny.

You would be very welcome in this house...my husband is a F1 freak...all that Italian blood in him I guess. He bought himself a sports car last year and was invited to drive around a race circuit here with some pro drivers....he had so much fun.
