Sore throat

Easter - it's one of those dates that always sneaks up on me. But I'm even less prepared than usual, thanks to feeling like death this week. Be grateful I spared you a photo of my tonsils. Instead you get the glass of hot water with salt for me to gargle with.

Gargle - what a bizarre word. I don't like it, but I can't think of an alternative. I'll add it to my collection of really-don't-like-saying  words - leotard and cashier. Does everyone have those, or is it just me?

Ooooh, I hope you feel better soon. I've heard that sucking on a chocolate egg does wonders for a sore throat LOL! There's a word that I really hate saying, but do you think I can remember it now? No-o-o. It's not leotard though, I kind of like that one LOL!

Oh I laughed at this, Ali! I have a whole DICTIONARY of words I hate, the number one being..
bladder

I hate everything about that word. I hate the way it looks, the way it sounds and what it means. Yuck.

I can't stand the word blog. Leotard and cashier don't bother me though.
I hope the gargling works.

It's just you. :)

Funny, my fourth son and I were talking about words we hate just this morning.
Moist.
Pasty.
Both words we definitely hate.

we have been battling round after round of illness for the past three weeks. i a currently the one down with it (my second illness - the first was influenza A) - and this virus includes an owie sore throat.

i am in my 8th month of pregnancy and can't take ibuprofin or anything, but i have been using Sip N Rinse frequently. it's really old school, but so soothing, and much better than plain ol' salt water. i hope you can find it!

Poor you. I don't like the word kid. I can't bear it. My children are children. And a new one that's bugging me a lot lately is "healthful".

Hi Ali - I hope you feel better soon! Tonsils are the bane of my existence. In fact, mine are getting removed in about two months. I'm not really looking forward to the surgery, but the mandatory bedrest might be pretty nice. :)

The words that I hate are the ones that people use incorrectly. Like when people say 'nauseous' when they mean 'nauseated.' Just a little pet peeve of mine.

'Gargle' doesn't bother me, but it is one of those words that if you say it too many times it doesn't sound like a real word anymore.

What a pain for the long weekend! I find it really hard to gargle as I feel as if I'm drowning. Hope the salt water does the trick, one of my favourite words at the moment is antibiotic as I have the lurgy too.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon!

:(

I hope you feel much better very soon.

Very funny post though Ali!! I think my least favourite words are

moist

and lilac - pronounced the 'ampshire way with a very hard 'ack' at the end!!

Hope the bunny brings you some throat soothing chocolate :)

xxxx

Oh poor you! I have every sympathy, and you're not the only one - I have the most raging of sore throats today. Soluble spirin is my gargle of choice today! Get well soon. And just to share my least favourite word - ramekin - can't bear saying it!

Oh poor you! Hope you feel better soon. I'm like Anna and I know there are words I can't stand but I can't for the life of me think what they are! Happy Easter!

Oh you poor thing...sounds totally miserable...Is it possible you will be able to suck chocolate over the weekend ? I truly hope so.....get better soon :)

I hear chocolate is good for the throat.

'discharge' I hate that word.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well and hope you recover very soon.

I do indeed have some words that I never ever say but they are really bad so I can't repeat them here. A word that is innocuous on its own is "pop" but I cannot stand it when people use it in phrases like "it really makes the whole room pop" (used in decorating comments. I actually don't know why this bothers me but it does.

I do not like the word nasal or nostril. Come to think of it anything to do with noses! I hope you are soon feeling full of the joys of spring!

Sorry you're feeling grotty. Gargling is one thing I've never been able to do - I end up gagging!
Talking of gagging, vomit is one of my nasty words... yuk!
I'm with the chocolate as cure-all gang too!

Gusset. That's one of my words - it has such a bizarre sound to it - to me, at least.

Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly - get well soon. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Easter weekend. x

Oh no - poor you. My doctor recommended gargling with soluble aspirin which tastes utterly foul. Hubby and I both had tonsillitis recently - though naturally his was worse. If it goes on more than a few days, and if your glands are up, I'd highly recommend having a throat swab just in case ...

I hate moist too. and nylons, ugh. they feel the same way the word feels in my mouth. ugh.

There is only one word which is completely forbidden in my house - "Shuttup". Of course, now my children are older they use it to rack up the tension a few notches in tricky situations.

Get better soon - sore throats are a complete misery.

My word hate is "absolutely". It has overtaken "yes" by the people who think you should know what the hell they're talking about and why!

Get well soon.

oh feel better soon xx

So pleased to hear that someone else hates the word kid. I did not give birth to baby goats i gave birth to children. Sounds like you ahve had tonsilitis really hope you are getting better. that is so horrid. We are a family that suffers with it. I hate the fact that a word i consider a swear word that relates to wind and begins with f and ends in t, is used all the time even on childrens tv and in their books. It sends me round the bend. My mother in law hates the word toilet which makes me laugh - it aslo makes me use the word far more than is necessary

So sorry about your throat--I hope you're feeling much better very soon. Love, K x

hope your throat is doing better after all of the gargling. I've always disliked 'crotch' and 'smear' conjurs up some pretty nasty images! Cruddiness aside - hope you have a lovely Easter!

'Gusset' - makes me cringe everytime! Hope you feel better soon.

You poor thing, I hope you get over the sore throat soon, I remember when I was about sixteen we went on our annual hols and I had the most terrible sore throat,so my kind and caring (or cruel, the jury out on that one) parents decided it would be a good idea for me the gargel TCP, gross! I stank like a pharmacy for the whole week. Still can't bare the smell of it. Oh!talking about horible words, I hate the word...... Gusset! It evokes all kind of yucky thoughts.

hoot! love all the words other people have suggested!

Mine are vomit and spandex - ugh.....

Notice how most of the icky words are in the same league? Perhaps we are all just fed up with female euphemisms.....?
